envy

Tis the season of lent, and this morning I caught myself endulging in one of the seven deadly sins: ENVY.

What exactly is it about Envy that makes it a deadly sin? According to the "Law of Attraction" there's plenty of anything any of us could want...what's wrong with seeing what others have and wanting the same? Is that what Envy is?

Or, is Envy hating another person for qualities or things they posess? That's another thing entirely. I do consider it wrong to hate someone. And if this is the definition of Envy, then I don't think it was envy...well, maybe a little.

...the feeling came from viewing pictures of a young mom I know. She posesses a great husband, beautiful young kid, and a great body so soon after a pregnancy. I knew in the moment I felt it that she has what she has because she creates her life actively. Her conscious choices bring her these results...and I could have the same.

We all could.

I cleaned the kitchen with the motivation from that little drop of Envy.
...is it really all THAT bad?

You're right, it doesn't seem so bad when you put it that way!

I undertand what you are saying. Sometimes envy can be a motivator! My good friend recieved not one but TWO job offers this week while my status as a intern-turned-temp worker at my employer is on the line. I've never been so jealous in my life. However, this motivated me to pick up the pace with my own job search.

I am well acquainted with that Sin. After all, I have a younger sister who has always been prettier, more popular, and is currently married to a really fantastic guy and has 4 children, has a fantastic body, and is about to run the Boston Marathon. But I also realize that everyone lives a different life. She really struggles with more inward obstacles.

I think that the Lord does not wish us to compare. Even if we shared the same womb, we didn't come out at all alike. Every life is different. Every life is what we make of it.

At least you've yet to experience the joy of no sleep due to colicky children, bruises on your feet from left-behind legos and a feeling of utter defeat when husband is able to make the baby sleep when it screams whenever you touch it. Yet. ;)

Well I have to say it appears you were spamed..;) but smile lighting up a room well now that part is true. Hope taht you let the flame of envy light your way rather than burn you up and burn you out little one...

I can totally relate. It's crazy, isn't it...how much easier it is to feel envy than it is to muster the motivation to change our own reality? And, yes...I agree...you do have a great smile. :D

Hi, this is my biggest sin, too. I get envious of things others have too. I write about this on my blog sometime ago.
